Hey guys,
The mod gods message said I had to post here within five days, so here goes. I'm 30 and really only play surf guitar, and mostly only rhythm/2nd. I played bass in a couple of bands before joining a local surf band five years ago and I've been doing it ever since, now in two bands. I was always fascinated by Mosrites because of a few of my favorite bands that used them, but the things were always pretty out of reach so I never really pursued one. I've got a Jazzmaster, have and have had several Strats, several different Yamaha SGV's, a Squier Vista Series Jagmaster, and a couple of Dearmond Guild-reissue hollow bodies.
The other day I saw an ad for a Johnny Ramone sig model Mosrite for a really good price in a pawn shop. I made the trek and wound up bringing home two guitars: the Johnny Ramone model in white, in almost new condition, with "Mosrite of California" on the headstock. The second, and the one I'm in love with despite having some issues, is a Ventures model that says "Mosrite of Classics" on the headstock. It's pearl white, body in good shape, but the pick guard is warped, one strap button is stripped out, and I think after seeing some pictures that the pickups are not original. They look like P-90's and not like Mosrite pickups, so I was wondering about possible replacements (Hallmark?). It's got a three piece neck, which may or may not mean anything to anyone else though I thought it odd. A little interweb search told me this was the down market/entry level model from Fillmore, though I'm a bit confused about the number of reissues (how many different makers, what levels of quality, price point, etc).
Can anyone tell me a) how much this guitar costs new and b) how much it might be worth? Also, if you can point me in the direction of any other gotta-read threads, I'd appreciate it. Hope to find out a lot more from this forum.
I know some of my fellow surfguitar101 nerd cohorts are here...show yourselves.
Richard

Good to see you here Richard, enjoy your new addiction! If you could post pics of your pickups we should be able to tell you if they're correct or not.

Hello, and welcome! If those pickups are not original or if they don't sound very good I highly recommend the Hallmark 60s Custom pickups. They're plenty loud, great high end, and have just the right amount of bite. Actually, KRamone on here has a set that he's been looking to sell although I'm not sure if they're still available as I've been out of town for a few days and I'm just catching up with the forum.

Hey Fritz!
Ok, I've got some pics but don't know how to post them. Can anyone hit me with a clue x 4?
