Zero Fret on my Custom 60, plus pickup magnet spacing

NEWS FLASH Man, I totally forgot we fixed this pole piece issue already on new models models. We made a run of pickups with the standard Mosrite spacing just to have around the shop and these got used on the lefty's and some other one off's. We realized the spacing was slightly off for our newly improved spacing and adjusted the polepiece spacing on all the new models and corrected it on the last couple of runs.

ok, I'll contact Jerry tomorrow afternoon and let him know that you will be shipping him the correct pickups for the lefty guitars. wont be a big deal for me since I live 30 miles from him. some of the other leftys are in other countries.

I'll be glad to exchange the pickups in my guitars with the correct ones with the correct pole spacing. it would fix that issue.

believe me, I would love to help you "when" and "if" you ever do another lefty run.

you'll never know a lefty that was more into the mosrite style of guitars as i am. i've grew up playing every venture's tune recorded only to never have a mosrite to play them on. i asked you a couple years ago if you would ever consider making a lefty C60, and at that time, you couldn't do it. now you've made a first run of them, and i feel fortunate to grab 2 of these guitars. i would of bought more if there were other colors to choose from.

my 2 C60 are gigged 5 days a week and get a lot of compliments. i have over 30 other guitars that i could be playing, but i "always" wanted a mosrite since i was 7 years old (i'm 52 now). this is probably as close as i'll ever come to getting a real mosrite without breaking my bank account.

Bob, you are sooooo close to making a GREAT guitar. a tweak here, an adjustment there. each run should be closer to the ideal guitar.

remember, i'm trying to help you get these guitars to the "promised land" too

From working with Don and Tim Wilson I learned that Bob Ito from Aria took Nokie's Hitchhiker project under his wing. In fact, if you look at the Aria 40th Anniversary Ventures model, it has the same vibrato as Nokie's Hitchhiker. It's similar to a Mosrite vibrato, only it's stamped as opposed to being cast. The Wilson Bros models all have a taller zero-fret too.

What happened to that vibrato? Looked like a cool design, and far more unique than a generic Jazzmaster vibrato.

I had an Aria-made Wilson Bros. VCM2003 with the Jazzmaster-style bridge and vibrato. Great-sounding and playing guitar, but that Jazzmaster bridge caused me no end of grief, so I wound up sending it back. What I really wanted was a VCM2001 with the Mosrite-style vibrato--if they'd been able to get me one of those, I'd still have it!

I have those same pickups on my right-handed H60C, and they sound great.

I did fiddle with the pickup height when I first got the guitar, but haven't messed with it since then.

The guys in the two bands I play with really like the way my Hallmarks sound in our mix, and they remark on that all the time. Of course, I'm playing through a very nice '66 Tremolux amp and that is a good combination with the Hallmark guitars.

I would simply relocate the pickups in perfect alignment with the bridge and then you'll be in business.

I have Nokie's prototype of this model, and can report that the tremolo works beautifully! There are two sets of holes in the tailpiece block so that you can adjust the amount of pitch-drop in the strings. I use the lower ones because I like the tone better with the steeper string angle over the bridge.

I'm fine with the neck pickup in mine, but it would really be nice to have a properly spaced bridge model if possible. I'm good with an iron, so I can swap that out myself if possible.

Maybe Jerry or Bob can chime in here after you've talked and see what the next steps can be. Seems like Bob could just mail out replacements directly to guys like me without Jerry having to get involved.

WOW, what a great thread. I really liked the pictures showing the magnetic fields of the pickups. I never have paid attention to the position of the pickup poles under the strings. My main concern is that the guitar plays according to my liking and gives the sound through my amps that I am looking for. I guess if we want to get technical we have to look at the gauge of wiring, how tight the coil is wound, how large the magnetic bar is, the amount of magnetic field generated by the magnet, how flat the coils are and many other parameters including how the type of metal in the strings react to the magnetic flux. Oh my this can get complicated real fast. Me thinks I will just stay with if it makes me smile when I hit a chord or note I'll be satisfied!!!
