It appears that the truss rod was removed at one time. They did a real hack job, even the logo is damaged.

I thought that the truss rods would pull out without doing that kind of damage, so I'm gonna guess it was the "tech" and not the rods..

I bought my '72 Mosrite bass with a non workable truss rod and bowed neck. it too had the adjustment at the headstock but had to be removed from the rear. It had a factory glued on plastic cover across the back of the neck. I removed the plastic cover and pulled out the truss rod and installed a replacement. Works perfect now however it now adjusts from the rear via a small 1/4" access hole through the plastic cover. Unfortunately there was some damage done to the headstock finish from attempted removal.

I am concerned that this removal of material from a critical area may have compromised the strength of the base of the headstock. It has obviously withstood the butchery, but it may be wise to treat the guitar with a little extra gentleness...especially with the added tension of twelve strings.

I may be wrong but the only damage I'm seeing is the shallow groove cut back about an inch or so from the circle M. If that's the case it shouldn't be any problem. That larger cavity looks like as originally manufactured on my bass.

I agree. I've seen two sizes of TRC on Celebrities. I'm wondering if the longer of the two would cover things adequately and still look stock.

Sarah, I think if one was to combine the design of the two covers using the shorter version style with the elongated tip added would be similar to what was originally on the guitar. That would be the easiest and aesthetically pleasing solution.
