Any GarageBand users?

Postby Sarah93003 » Tue Jun 29, 2010 11:52 pm

Hey all. We just got new computers in the office and they are very nice iMacs. There is a program called GarageBand that I hear is great for recording tracks, etc. I am wondering if any of you happen to be proficient with this program and if I can talk with you over the phone to get a run through. I'd love to record all of my originals plus other tunes. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat. I recently got a Macbook, and I bought it specifically because it has Garageband. But I have yet to use it. I must be tech challenged because everybody says it is easy to use, but i need some tutoring  .

I think that is something different. It looks like an online storage site for music files. I was asking about the software program "GarageBand" that comes on Mac computers. ;)

Yeah, maybe I'm just impatient but all I was trying to do was play along with the drums and couldn't even get that to work. Errrr, maybe I'm just too old to get this technology stuff.

I'm an analog dummy...I don't have the patience (and will) for complicated digital stuff anymore. My computers throughout the years have given me enough stress already

the rules I live by Paul is if it's broke, I try to fix it, if I can't fix it, I blow it up. This philosophy hasn't stirred me wrong yet....except for that one night I spent in jail ;)

If I blew up Garage Band it would most likely take my computer with it. I could however blow up the USB turntable that's been sitting here acting as a nice shelf for the last 2 years or so. I seem to be sticking with the stand alone component burner as it's a little more like recording on a tape deck. Of course the rare occasion I use it I still need 5 minutes to figure it out again.

ha, ha, yeah, or chuck it from a three-story building :D
I often used to say; if something doesn't work, give it a kick first...
I admire the folks though who do get their heads wrapped around the 'digital thing'. My 18-year ol' son knows way more than I do in this field. He has a blackberry and operates it like he was born with it
I bought a brand new USB turntable not so long ago ...couldn't get a stereo signal from it on my computer using "Audacity" software etc., got fed up and sold it on again -at a loss of course (the sound quality from it sucked anyway).
So guess what...I hooked up my good old Thorens TD160 turntable again and now enjoy playing my vinyl records once more since 20 years...seriously! :P

I got as far as recording a segment of music and then didn't know what to do from there. I thought I might get back to it someday, not looking good though. My guess is the thing is outdated already. It's not like I use my ipod enough for it to even matter and if I want to play along to a record I don't see myself doing it while driving so the 'ol turntable suits me just fine. If I need a song for band practice the stand alone works just fine. Ahh, but the Garage Band would be fun to goof around with. A friend of mine did his whole first record with it. It was lo-fi kinda punky rock and roll stuff anyway so it did the trick. Then he just had rotating band members for shows which I got lucky enough to do once.
