Re: New Hawaii-50 Theme
Mel and Bob are turning over in their graves over that disgusting rendition. Ironically, the comparison that they have is a different rendition from late in the series anyway. But still, that new version is awful. I understand The Ventures were approached about possibly doing a new version for this new adaption. Looks like they lost out to some clueless studio hacks. I wonder if CBS has any idea of what a slap in the face this is to The Ventures, to Jack Lord, and to Mort Stevens. I remember the first time I landed in Hawaii and heard the famous Ventures TV theme start blasting over the intercom, what a feeling. I think I would've puked if I'd heard this version. Forty year old legends instantly forgotten about...

How dare you presume to inject, using reproducible facts and rational thought, an on-topic discussion into a thread that had degenerated from sarcasm, personal invective, and hand-waving arguments?

Oh, absolutely true. However "cool" is defined, Jack Lord had it. When I used to work in NYC, someone there told me that Lord was actually, in addition to being an actor, a respected painter and artist who had stuff in museums.
Never bothered to look that up but I wouldn't be surprised. He was one serious cat.
Part of the dynamic of the original show was the tension between the older, serious Lord and Danno, the earnest, younger cop. It really was an effective concept.

Hay guys, I like the old 5-0 my self however, the percushion on both the old and new versions leaves something to be desired. I think the version done by the Venture's is far superior than the old or the new versions of 5-0. At least if any one disagrees with this, you must admit the the percushion is cool, even though it takes two drummers to play it, the timming must be right on the money ro it would sound like s...

Well, folks, all this hoopla has inspired me to start work on a new rendition of the 'Mister Ed' theme, as I believe it's one of the few old series that hasn't been scheduled for a remake. Or maybe I'll redo Neil Levang's classic guitar part on the "Green Acres' theme. Don't call it sacrilege. Call it... progress.

Have you ever noticed that you can take any hit song and sing it's lyrics to the melody of the Gilligan's Island theme song? It's true.
