VERY NICE MATON ! Vincent, there's a lot of History behind that Company that I think,
there's probably not too many people familiar with them. My older cousins gave me lots
of old Albums when I was a punk learning to play guitar, and besides the Ventures Albums,
one of the other Albums was a group called "the Easybeats." At first the name suggests maybe
something from a folk era, however they are quite the opposite, being probably one of the first
Aggressive Rock bands in Australia. Their Lead Guitarist played an electric 12 string Maton that
strongly resembled the Gibson ES-335. And I remember that only because I was looking thru some
of my old Albums about a week ago and stumbled onto that. And for a little more History, it just so
happens that George Young, who was the rhythm guitarist in the Band, ended up producing his younger
brothers band later on, which they were sorta of known too......AC/DC

Dennis:

I am an old man (just 1 year younger than that older old man; Danny) So I am not familiar with those groups. Sorry. Even AC/DC was a little too modern for me. Believe or not, my favorite group in folk era from Austrila was Seekers ("Turn! Turn! Turn!")

Maton Guitars are one of the hidden gems. Not too many people have heard of them, (not even the Guitar Manager of the local Guitar store) But once try them, all fell in love right away. They are hard to get as they are not sold in major chain nor on line stores.

LOL! Hey, I'ma gonna be 49 in Sept, so I ain't no sprung punk. And there's a gap of 7-10 yrs with my older cousins :) BTW "the Easybeats" (1964-1969) were out roughly around the time as "the Seekers" (from 1962). The Easybeats biggest International Hit was "Friday On My Mind." I HAVE heard the Seekers version of "Turn! Turn! Turn!" on You Tube. However, the Version that sticks in my mind is "the BYRDS" Version which down here in SoFlo, you here at least 3 or 4 times a week on the Classic Rock Stations...... ;)

I guess you are right, The Byrds did the song "Turn, Turn, Turn" a few years before Seekers. Pete Seeger wrote the song and recorded it first, I think. In the 60's, we only had very few LP at home. Byrds never made to our door.

The Ventures LP's were my favorites, of course. I think most guitar players started with "Walk Don't Run" as their first Ventures tunes. I actually started with a tune called "Twisted" because that was the easiest tune on my very first Ventures LP

Which one was your first Ventures tunes?

WDR '64 Vol II.
I don't know why, but even when I was learning how to play, I could already hear the difference in the tones of the guitars. I remember asking for this album from my parents althought it was already like 1971, a year after the Beatles broke up! Well, they got me the Album, only one problem. It was the ORIGINAL WDR from 1960. I did not like the lame tone Bogle used on his Jazzmaster, probably because he always favored the "mellow" tone by using the Neck Pickup most of the time. But in Nokie's case, 99% of the time, he always favored the Bridge Pickup, which gave it more "driving" sound, and brighter for R&R songs, but that's just me. Anyhow, my parents took the Album back, and exchanged it ( Record Stores used to do stuff like that  ).
That might also be the reason why I got hooked on the Mosrite as opposed to the Jazzmaster. I had a '65 J.M. and it sounded sweet. But the problem was, when I switched to the Bridge Pickup, it STILL just sounded "sweet" with a little bit brighter tone, but it DID NOT have that "Driving Tone' that the Mosrite had. I sold the J.M. a little while back, and now I miss it, cause it still had a good tone, just kind of limited for me though......

I know only too well the aggravation of talking to these guitars shop people who've never heard of Mosrites.Just like Goldentrem, I've been into every store here in Sydney to find that even blokes who are old enough to know, have no clue what I'm talking about when I mention Mosrites. The thing that really riles me is when I cop it from a younger guy and I then ask him if he's heard of the Ramones. The answer is always an emphatic 'yes' and when I tell them that their hero Johnny played only Mosrites their look of bewilderment is priceless. How could anyone be into the Ramones and guitars and not know that?
People ... I dunno.
Mozz-ritty. That's a beauty.

I'm a big Tommy Emmanuel fan too and always wondered about the specs of his guitar. Since you have the signature Maton, maybe you can help me. In particular I wanted to know what the neck width at the nut was - is it 1 3/4'' like a lot of fingerstyle guitars, or narrower? He gets around that guitar so well that I was really curious. The MAton website does not specify. This has been a burning question for me. Thanks.
