Vintage E.F.Elliott "The Surfers Model"guitars

Postby EFElliott » Tue Mar 23, 2010 3:35 am

Hello friends,

Well, before the "RS", "The '59" and "The '63" models, I built the
E.F.Elliott "The Surfers model" guitars. In the late 90s I built 22 of these guitars, I sold
10 here in the US and 12 of them in Japan. I sold 4 Surfer models to Mosrite guitar collecter
Steve Obowitz in Conneticut, he sold the first one he bought from me to a Japanese
guitar collecter. Of corse, I have no photos of any of these guitars, but last night SteveO in Conneticut sent me photos
of the 3 E.F.Elliott Surfer models he has, and I thought I share these photos with my friends here
at the Mosrite Forum.

You know, most young boys heros are usully sport figuars or rock stars,
well my hero was local guitar builder Semie Moseley, I'd think, how great it would be to grow up
and be a guitar builder like Semie Moseley, (Now I'm 52 and I still think greatest job ever!)
I like to think of my work as a tribute to my ol' friend, mentor and Hero Semie Moseley.
I'd like to think , Ol' Uncle Semie is looking down and grinning at me, as I build these guitars.

Ed Elliott

I should have been a guitar builder too instead of "counting other people's money" (but not anymore, I'm 65 :D ) Thanks for sharing those lovely pictures Ed.
DROOL...I need to have one of those Sunburst Surfers too! (my wish list is getting longer all the time ) ...

Very nice Ed! Steve Obowitz talks about the late Sam Moss in which he has Sam's Mosrite neck on the wall in his repair shop.
Do you by chance know any history about the Mo' neck that Steve has?? I was just curious after I checked out Steve's myspace.
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

I'm a sunburst kind of guy and I really like that one. Beautiful, Ed. I'm sure Uncle Semie would be proud of his protege.

Eddy, simply amazing. Have you ever given any thought to being a teacher at a luthiering school? Just wondering, did you hand make those mosrite trems also, just like your others?, or were those aftermarket?
Cheers,
Aaron
