What's a Mozz-ritty??

Postby Dennisthe Menace » Sun May 11, 2008 5:27 pm

Well, today I made the mistake of wearing one of my Mosrite T-Shirts going into a National Music Store Chain (we'll leave it at that) to buy some strings. Anyhow this kid (every bit of 18 yrs) and with an attitude and a Nose Ring to match, that suggests that he knows EVERYTHING that ever existed about music (except its History) comes up to me while he's still talking on his Cellphone and says "What ya' need?" He just had that "You're bothering me while I'm trying to book a gig for my Band" attitude. I said "Let me get 12 pks of E.Ball 8's." While he's ringing me up, he looks at my T-Shirt and says to me "What's a Mozz-ritty?" I told him what the correct pronunciation was. With the 'attitude' still swarming, he says "I never heard of it, probably cause no National Act Bands that I know ever played them." So I tried to zero in on his mentality, "Oh? You never heard of Kurt Cobain from "Nirvana?" And his response???? Oh, Kurt only played JAGS, Univox, and JAGstangs." At this point, I just decided to save my breath and said "Oh, I see, that's good to know." I wasn't even gonna try to explain to him what a "Gospel" was......As i was leaving, going out the Front Door, I decided to go back to him to get his name off the badge he was wearing. But, when I turned around in his direction, he was already on his Cellphone. I figured, well, I don't want to interrupt him again, just in case he's booking a gig for his band, or talking to his girl, or.....................

That's too bad you had such an exasperating experience. Most of the 12 year old kids with rings and tattoo's affixed to every appendages of their body that work at out local Guitar Center are quite friendly. Not knowledgeable, but friendly. Did he ask you who Ernie Ball was?

Nukie of The Vultures

Postby Desert Surfer » Sun May 11, 2008 6:35 pm

One time I saw a TV News clip on YouTube... A anchor lady announced: "After 50 years, The Vultures are finally to be inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame..." The other time, a TV Host (Fox) stated that Nokie Edwards, or rather, "Nukie" Edwards "has been with them for 50 years." Let's not argue about the 50 years, but Nukie?

Nukie of The Vultures. What will they think of next?

I still get a chuckle out of the Bable Fish Translator web site when it changes Japanese into English. Nokie Edwards is translated No Key Edwards.

You know, I want to give credit to the folks at our local Palmdale and the Bakersfield "national chain". When I decided to give this a try I wanted to do it on my own (meaning no brother or dad) and it took some effort to walk into the store. Once I got in there I just about turned about and left because I felt WAY out of place. But the folks at both stores were incredibly friendly and helpful. I fully expected the attitude that you mention but I was VERY surprised and please at how polite, friendly and helpful they were. I think had I had that type of experience I would avoid the places like the plague and I would only order online. So far all the times I have gone in there they have been positive. You probably just got someone on a bad day... Who knows, maybe the person on the phone was his ex-wife or lawyer!

I was in a large chain music store a couple of weeks ago looking at the J Mascis Jazzmaster and of the helpful young gent proudly anounced (when he finally stopped shredding on an ibanez pointy thing) the guitar i was looking at was a "Johnny Mathis Jazzmaster" .
Gotta love the kids.

I had a the same experience about a month ago in Sydney.
Having nothing to do on my day off i thought i'd look for a case for my new Ranger 65 deluxe.
I went to one of the largest music stores in town, the friendly shop assistant, a guy about 40 asked if i needed any help,
"I'm looking for a case for my Mosrite solidbody",
"yer what?!?" replied the confused looking assistant,
"a Mosrite, you know the Ramones, the Ventures...?" i said.
"Man i'm a guitar freak and ain't never heard of them !!"
I thanked him for his help and left.

Welcome to the forum! Nice story :D I presume that you are from Australia?

Hey, one of the most knowledgeable persons for Mosrite guitars is Tim of Tym Guitars in Australia. I wish he would write a book about Mosrites (I wrote to him once, but he said he was not going to do so. )

One of my favorite acoustic guitars is Maton EBG808TE (Tommy Emmanuel Signature Guitar) I am glad I got it before Australia Dollar got so strong (or US dollar got so weak :x ) It is made of Australia Maple with very bright sound. Tommy is one of my favorite guitarists. Too bad, he is not going to CAAS show in Nashville in July.
