Could anyone here on the Forum possibly identify the Guitar and the Bass (Ron Meagher) instruments in this Video?
I'm not sure what these are, or from what country. At one point I thought the guitar was an early Vox with the bad
copy of a Fender Headstock, and the Bass??? ....I haven't a clue nor have I ever seen a Bass like that........?????

I'd say either Vox or Kapa.

The bass looks similar to a Rickenbacker guitar, I can't remember which model. I'm not saying it is a Rickenbacker though. You could ask about this at the http://www.vintaxe.com forums as well.

I agree with Adam; I suspect that bass is a Kapa.

Oddly enough, they were made, or rather assembled from Japanese components, about about a mile from here. I had a couple of the late 1970s successors to the Kapa, also made by Kobe Veneman's shop, a Bradley J-bass copy and a 12-string acoustic Nagoya, which was a fairly accurate Martin clone. Both were Japanese-made and sold through Veneman's Music.

You see the old Kapas selling on eBay from upwards of $600 nowadays, which I think is too much for what they are.

It's nice to see the clips of some of the songs from the "good ol' days"........can't tell what guitars they are using... looks as though Jim has a good take on it.......

Both the guitar and bass are Vox. Clubman bass, and I think the guitar was called a Clubman too. They're British-made, which makes them pretty rare here in the US, as most of the Vox guitars that came over here were made in Italy by Eko, and came along after the British ones. The workmanship on the British Vox guitars was pretty inconsistent, and those were entry-level models--it's pretty unlikely that the Beau Brummels used them for anything other than miming on TV. During that period, Vox was giving equipment to any band that had any visibility at all--most of the bands would use the guitars for TV appearances and photos, and play something else for gigs and recordings. There's a clip of "Laugh Laugh" with one of the guitar players playing a Gretsch Tennesseean, the other on either another Gretsch or maybe a Guild Starfire--it's hard to tell--and the bass player's playing a Fender Jazz Bass.

Judging by the VIDEO and checking my 'Vintage Guitars' Book, my guess is the guitar was called the 'STROLLER.'
There didn't seem to be a 'Clubman' guitar listed, however the STROLLER and the CLUBMAN were both introduced
in 1961 and both discontinued in 1966. Although this PIC only shows a one pickup model, the book suggests they
were also available with 2 pickups which pretty much matches the model in the Video......

i saw a vox bass long ago at the rockville maryland guitar center. I remember it had a zero fret, but that's about it.
