despite the lack of sustaining power from basswood, it is one of my most favorite guitar woods. I have grown quite fond of the tone. It's not quite like poplar, alder, or ash, it has it's own sound. And if sustaining power is that important to a player, pick a guitar of a different wood. For me it's not that important. And when you have a Marshall with the gain on 10, your gonna get sustain even if the guitar was made of silly puddy
