Re: We Got Snow In Washington!!!
Another great photo. Are you located in the area just south of DC heading towards Mt. Vernon? Looking at your deck, it reminds me of that area. I fell in love with that area. I bet you have a gorgeous view on a clear day.

Re: We Got Snow In Washington!!!
Hey, Danny--
We are about seven miles due north of the White House, in Hyattsville, MD. The part of town I live in is a large historic district, and all the houses are 1870s to 1920s. Mine is a 1926 Sears kit house that a local builder and his brothers gutted and rebuilt inside as a three-year hobby. We love it.
I know the area that you refer to near Mt. Vernon. From what I've read, many of the homes in that area, if you look at the title abstracts, show George Washington as a prior owner of the property.
How cool is THAT?!?!?

Re: We Got Snow In Washington!!!
Awesome photos Jim. How many inches did you get your way? My brother lives in Woodbridge Virginia and he got about 25 inches. two trees fell on his property from the snow.
But up my way west of the Appalachian mountains we got a lot more. a friend south of me told me today they got 28 inches, but I think I hold the record for the area. today I measured 41 INCHES OF SNOW!!!!!!
I also heard some areas in west virginia reporting 40 plus inches. I'll have to post pictures. the snow on top of my SUV look like it's 20 feet in the air, it's crazy!
I live in a pretty historic area too, my house was built in 1753, and the land was originally owned by Lord Fairfax.
By the way Danny, This is not your typical winter.

Hey, Aaron--
I think we got about 22 inches, but others living nearby claimed higher numbers. It was plenty, that much I know!!!

Wow!!! As a history buff, I have read about young George Washington visiting the Fairfaxes often, and he was actually romantically rebuffed by Sally Fairfax. He didn't take it well, being an awkward man socially.
I love the history in this area; it is one of the prime reasons Patty and I moved up here in the 1980s.

That is for sure. I believe we got six inches of snow last year, and maybe 14 inches the year before that. This winter is bound to have set some sort of record.

i remember on new years eve in 96, my band played music on our back porch because it was roughly 70 degrees that day. most winters have been quite mild in the last 10 years.
yeah i'm history buff as well. i love reading the works of lincoln, jefferson, and the like. their command of the english language is incredible.

More great photo's. I like the chronology of the photo's where you show the shovel then it makes appear that you dig away the snow and found your dog. I'll bet there'll be a heck of a mess when all that snows starts melting.

Hey, Danny--
One of the big problems when there is this much snow is that the snow plowing trucks are at a loss as to where to put all the plowed snow. You will see gigantic berms of snow in store parking lots.
The ironic thing is that we are supposed to get more snow mid-week. Not as much, but some. It has also turned colder, so ice is becoming a problem now.
I think our college will be closed tomorrow. We follow what the Federal Government does, usually, but the streets around our building near Georgetown are impassable right now, we have heard.
MORE PICKIN' TIME FOR JIMMIE!!! As long as I have coffee, tobacco, and Southern Comfort, I am willing to face any adversity.
