Hey!

I will have some serious picking time this weekend, thanks to Mother Nature!

As long as we have power, I am happy.

Wow! Jim, I'm so happy that the snow missed us! It looks so beautiful, untouched and fresh-fallen, but I would hate to have to do the shoveling......
This looks like the snow we often get here in the southern tier of NY, but so far, been lucky this winter, I think the most we've gotten at one time is maybe 4 to 5 inches, which is not bad for here......nice photos!

Jim those are very beautiful pictures!

Here in Holland we have been getting snow...and it thawed away...again snow...and it thawed away...and yet again snow and at the moment it's snow free again. All kinds of precipitation imaginable and in the short space of one month. This has never happened before and the winter isn't over yet... Crazy weather :?

Jim, nice photos. Look beautiful from inside, but painful to deal with it outside. I know the feeling. :(

I am happy that Chicago escaped the storm this time. :)

I posted your photos on Taiwan guitar forum as most of them have never seen snow.

Best,
Vincent

Fortunately, we got only "brushed" by that storm ... although they're predicting up to 6 inches more here @ St Lou for Monday and Tuesday. Enjoy the snow days! My fav time of year ... I don't have to do yard work, outside house work, etc.

Beautiful photographs, Jim. And to think I wanted to move to East Coast when I retired.

Danny, you would love it-- most of the time! Actually, our family has had a wonderful day. It doesn't snow like this often in DC, and, when it does, everything just stops and folks have a fun day.

Jim: It's my pleasure and honor to do so.

Here is the link:

http://www.modernmusician.com/forum/sho ... p?t=123830

Some one started a thread: "Are we on summer vacation now?"

Taiwan will be on winter vacation soon (Chinese New Year is next weekend) but it is quite warm there and many wear shorts and T-shirt now. So I said: "Here are the photos from my forum friend, hope these will cool you guys down..." I also talked about how I shoveled 20" snow for 4 hours at our New Jery home in 1978...and that's why I am retiring in desert so I don't have to deal with snow...

It is one of the most popular guitar forums in Taiwan with 20,000 members worldwide.

***********

I have been trying to re-introduce Ventures music to young people in Taiwan in the last 3 years. The thread at this forum is quite popular and have got more than 7545 clicks so far.

"The 60's Surf music & instruments"

http://www.modernmusician.com/forum/sho ... p?t=119097

I talked a little bit about the Mosrites guitars, the history tradition and design etc... I told them how Danny restored a vintage 1965 Mark I Ventures model... I also talked about guitars used by The Ventures such as Jazzmaster, Telecaster and Stratocaster and other surf guitar such as Jaguar, Mustang by other groups. Most of them have never heard of The Ventures but some of them seem to be fascinated by this style of music. (unfortunately, most of these kids are in hard metal, dead metal etc.)

I also told them about the Guitar Geek Festival especially Mel's Jewish Surf band. I told them we can also try Taiwanese folk songs in surf style.

The guy in the picture on posting #75 is a Captain in one of the Taiwan Prisons who is a long time forum friend. On Post #5, he told us a little story how he and his inmates played the surf tune "Pipeline" at the jailhouse...(Should we call it Jailhouse surf?)

A friend and I started an easy Surf guitar lessons at the other Taiwan Guitar Forum a few years ago. That attracted a lot young and not so young kids. The Captain was one of them.

We love to play the Ventures tunes, we are not very good but we have a lot fun. That's most important. Believe it or not, the inmates at that particular prison love to play Ventures tunes; "Pipeline", "Secret Agent Man" and "Diamond Head". I did not introduce the Ventures tunes: "Go Go Slow" or "Fugitive" to them yet. That's probably not good idea.

This why "Pipeline" was so popular in Taiwan in the 70's. It was the theme song of the most popular puppet show in Taiwan. :P

Some of the readers started to inquire about where to get Mosrite guitars. On #98 & #100 posting, I told them to contact Bob Shade of Hallmark Guitars and Artie at Front Porch Music for Fillmore Mosrites. Hopefully they will be serious enough to get one!

Hope you like this odd and off topic stories... ;)
