Hello all...

Postby LatentMoseyFan » Fri Oct 02, 2009 11:40 am

Just another aging guitar aficionado here. Recalling an original Mosrite I encountered many years ago (a "60 model" I think - which I couldn't afford then and still can't now), I've latently developed fairly serious GAS for something faithfully Mosrite-like. (My GAS is usually reserved for other, more high profile brand name guitars and things).

Hacked around in bands (none you ever would've heard of ) for 10 or 12 years, mostly on the East Coast - 5 or 6 punky/poppy rock outfits (originals and covers) and a couple of kinda lame but tons-o-fun old school country bands (mostly 50s/60s covers). The last proper band I was in goes back almost 15 years - which short circuited after about 6 months. Since then, despite trying, I haven't found my way into any regular jam or band situation - due largely to ambivalence. One thing I've never lost interest in is all things guitar. I still hack around at home, dinkering and tinkering with gear, as well as swapping/buying/selling (I'm sure some of you know the name of that tune  ). While casually web surfing a few days ago, I was recalling that one old, wonderfully set-up and easy to play Mosrite I ran across years ago in a small shop. I clicked on one Mosey link, then another, then another - oh crap, here come da GAS . I've been through a parade full of gear. Guitar-wise my mainstays are Strats and Teles, usually with something Gibson-like on the side. That won't change. I'm pretty sure I'm a born-again Mosey fan, just arriving a little late to church.

I may have a line a good quality, older Japanese made copy. If that falls through, I'm leaning towards Hallmark (since the shared opinion here seems to be they make some of the most faithful repros).

Cheers,

LMF

Welcome to the forum! The Japanese Mosrites and the Hallmarks are all high quality guitars. I think you'll be happy either way. Just don't expect it to cure the GAS - besides the classic Ventures model, there's the Mark II / Mark V, Combo, Celebrity, Joe Maphis...
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

Welcome, LMF! I know the feeling - I always had strats, teles - strats being my weapon of choice - and my faithful Gibson ES-355. Now I have no tels and only a Squier strat, all gone to fill the spaces with Mosrite-style axes. So, enjoy the Forum - it becomes addictive, along with the Mosrites.

Welcome to the Mosrite forum family LMF. I'm sure you will find some Pepto-Bismol for that gas somewhere here on the forum. You are not alone with other brands of guitars being your mainstay. However, every stable needs at least one Mosrite. ;)

Betcha can't stop at just one. :D

Welcome! Another Strat-Tele-Jazzmaster with a few Gibsons on the side (my favorite is my ES295 w. Bigsby) kinda guy.
I've got a Hallmark 60 Custom, my first step into the world of Mosrite. notice I said "first" step.
The whole Mosrite thing is a unique niche, with a colorful history behind it. Fascinating stuff.

Started out with a Hofner Strat look-a-like, traded it in later for a Fender Strat and played Fenders ever since. However I got 'stung' (in a subliminal kinda way for me) by the Ventures model Mosrite a loooooong time ago, thanks to my favourite band and my first step in actually getting one was made only this year when I became an easy push-over for the Hallmark 60 Custom. I like your intro LMF, welcome!

Welcome LMF and enjoy your stay. Yeah, There are Mosrite guitars-a-plenty. I could give you a list but I think it would take a while...

Mark I/Ventures model
Mark II/Ventures II Slab Body model
Ventures II German Carve model (Transitional guitar from Mark II to Mark V, Looks about the same as the Mark V with a small difference in the pickguard)
Mark V/Ventures Mark V
Mark X (Ventures Bass)
Mark XII (Twelve string model)
Combo
Celebrity
Joe Maphis model (Like the Combo but without the F hole)
Double Neck models

That isn't even a complete list of ones available in the 60s, I left out some bass and twelve string versions of some of them. Some also had the option of coming with or without a tremolo.
1966 Ventures II (German Carved, B670.)
1970s "Not a Blues Bender" Bodies: 2.
1976 Brass Rail Deluxe #10.
2013 Fender Pawn Shop Bass VI.
