Re: does fillmore have a webiste?
Danny I agree with you on vintage Mosrite and exact copies/clones. I for one prefer the update that Bob Shades has given his guitars granted they aren't exact copies but that why I bought it. I find the Mosrite one of the most seductive guitars ever made ,I'm happy to have found a clone that I can play and it sounds right.

Danny (or anyone that knows): what is a Fillmore going for? Specifically a '65 Ventures II reissue? I haven't been able to find this information as of yet. (I still have to check out that Japanese page the other member posted though)
JimPage: I think your idea is great, but might be quite the undertaking and more specifically, how many of the "experts" have necessarily played vintage Mosrites, Partsrites, Fillmores, Hallmarks, Black Clouds, etc.? And even if they have played every different brand, would they have played enough different guitars to be able to weigh in? I've played plenty of Fender Stratocasters and every single one was different. I could certainly say a Strat is better than a Squier though all day long having played plenty of both. What about a complicated poll of sorts? Each of the respective guitars could be listed and everybody could vote for which guitar they like best. The numbers will be listed. Then each person that voted would then explain why they voted for the guitar they voted for and which of all listed instruments they had played or owned. Still complicated, but easier to get done in a timely fashion.

Re: does fillmore have a webiste?
Hey, Last--
My idea was to identify, not to evaluate. That would be a logical next step, though.
There is enough of a database to where this would have to be a multi-step process.
First, though, unless I'm wrong, would be to categorize the universe of Mosrite and Mosrite-inspired instruments. There are distinctions galore; for example, an Aria and a Univox are both Mosrite inspired, but I'm sure that they differ in details. And there are folks who worked for Mosrite and make fantastic recreations from scratch. Other folks obtain parts and build from those to varying degrees of quality, I'm sure.
My initial thoughts are that just to define the categories will be a big job. But eventually you would be able to define quality and even project pricing for the categories.

ok. i reread your post and i think i see what you're saying now. you just want to know what defines a clone, copy, partsrite, semie, reissue, etc? is that more on point?

Sounds good to me. All we need are the volunteers to compile all this information.

Hey!
Danny wrote>> All we need are the volunteers to compile all this information . . .
I plead ignorance for the categorizing! But I am good at sorting and compiling info an easily readable database.
So I'll volunteer to be secretary.
Any other volunteers?

Precisely!!! And once we have the areas defined, we populate it with what guitar goes where. Then we can later assign quality attributes, feature attributes, pricing, origin, numbers produced, or whatever else we want.

.....................yeah, but they don't say Mosrite on the headstock.![]()
The Hallmark 60s are great guitars but they are a close clone/copy, that's where it ends. The new Fillmore Mosrites are exact replicas in every detail. I use to feel that if it didn't have Semies DNA on it, it wasn't a real Mosrite. I don't think you will find Leo's DNA on any of the new Fenders either but they are still 'real' Fenders. Right? There are lot's of copies of Strats made by various makers but the only real Fenders are the ones that say Fender on them. The Mosrites whether made in USA or Japan will continue to bring a premium price simply because they say Mosrite.
Amen and Hallelujah!
As far as I'm concerned my Fillmore Ranger Bass IS a Mosrite- not only does it say so on the 'stock, ...
It has the vibe.
