Hello,

I am a long time tele freak who is looking to get into the world of Mosrite. I love the tone and playability. Is there a way to get into that world for under $1000 and get a really good guitar? What should I be looking for? The hallmarks look really good but I dont see any come up used. I am new to this world and am looking for info.

Save a little bit more ($38 more actually) and get a new Hallmark 60 Custom. Thank me later.

I'll vouch for that. The Hallmarks are killer. I have a 60 Custom, and it plays better than any actual Mosrite I've played. (I don't get along with those ultra-skinny vintage Mosrite necks.) Bob S. does a great job on these things, he's a great guy to deal with, and for the price you won't find anything even close. There are luthiers who will build you a Mosrite-style guitar with any neck profile or pickup layout you like, but you'll pay for it too. For that matter, Bob does custom work too...

Get a Hallmark!

How different are the hallmark necks? Do they still have the flat frets?

Almost as flat as the Mosrites. The necks are a little thicker, more like a modern style guitar, but still very close to the original.

Ditto! Get a Hallmark.....I am actually probably one of the few that actually like the ultra-thin Mosrite necks, the Hallmarks are more "standard" but as an owner of 5 Hallmarks, the quality and attention to detail that Bob puts into them is top notch. I have a few Telecasters from 1973 on up and prefer my Mosrites and Hallmarks to the Tele's. Good luck in your search!

Ditto. For $40 bucks more, your just covering shipping. They also come with a case. There is a reason you can't find them used! They look, play, feel, and sound better than the real thing! (my opinion)

I haven't looked much lately but a lot of Mosrite Celebrity III models were selling for under $1,000 some years ago. Those are hollow-body models. Perhaps you can also find a Mark V with a cheap refinish for under that price, or one that's missing original parts.
