Anyone have an idea of what this 'california blue' colour is close to in terms of say, Fender colour charts? I was thinking Daphne or sonic blue. For a while I thought it was a little similar to the Rickenbacker 'blue boy' finish, but I think the blue boy is a little lighter. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm not knowledgeable about colour charts but the blue on this one seems to me to reflect an overexposed shot. The headstock is very bright. Actually, I suspect that the blue on this one should be a darker shade in the flesh; compare the parts where a shadow is cast on the paint. Fender's Lake Placid Blue is considerably darker and both Dapne- and Sonic Blue, considerably lighter...(than the colour depicted).

It's closer to Daphne Blue than to anything else, but it's a little brighter than Daphne. Sonic Blue is light, almost a robin's-egg blue, and Lake Placid Blue is metallic. The closest Fender ever came to that particular shade was in the late-'70's-early-'80's with their "International" colors--I believe they called it Maui Blue.
