hey guys,

I don't think this topic has been up for debate yet, so I'm throwing it out there. What is your favorite mosrite clone? All I would like to add is lets keep guitars like Fillmore, Kurokumo, Eddy's stuff, hallmark, etc. out of the discussion. these guitars are so close to the real thing, it kinda makes this topic a moot point. I'm referring to guitars more like Dillon, the dano hodad's, silvertone, aria, univox, etc.

I think my favorite is the old silvertone's with the three pickups.

Well, going on looks alone, I like the Area Diamond series. It looks clean and unpretentious. I haven't played any of the others in that price range, so I'm just making a guess as far as quality is concerned. It does look a lot like a flipped over Wilson Brother's so maybe some of those owners could jump in.

I posted this recently on another thread. What I found interesting about this
Ibanez guitar, was that they actually made this in the late 60s, which was a
few years before 'the lawsuit era' of their 70s guitars.

According to the Vintage Ibanez site, these were supposedly made roughly
around 1968 or '69...............

I used to have a Hodad guitar and a Hodad baritone. They share nothing in common with Mosrites besides the general body shape. The others I haven't played, but the Dillions with the Wigsbys look cool, and now that M3*California is making P-90 sized Mosrite style pickups, really any of those can get in the tone zone.

maybe I should have named this thread what is your favorite mosrite inspired build instead. I'm just wondering on guitar reminds one of a mosrite, without being very close to one. the yahama guitar is a prime example.

I liked the old Univox Hiflyers -although the vibe was not really very Mosritey, but my favorite was an old Vox Bulldog -another one I wish I had kept.

Yeah, Tim! The Bulldog was the coolest guitar Vox ever made. They seem to be a cut above the Phantoms and the Mark series, even though they share pickups and hardware with them. I wouldn't mind having a Bulldog myself, although they don't show up for sale very often.

that is a cool guitar. those off the wall mosrite-like guitars do have a special place in my heart, even though some are the greatest builds. I never like the univox hi-flier guitar, but I really liked the bass I had.

Oh man! I love the Hi-Flyer basses...I still have mine. Hated the electronics with a passion. Absolutely love the way it plays! Short and comfortable scale, gives it a fatter tone too. Wound a set of Mosrite-style pickups for it, wired some new 500K audio pots up like a Jazz Bass and voila! Without a doubt - my favorite bass.

Not a big fan of the guitars either. Tuning stability! What tuning stability? But I seriously love the basses...
