does this mean anything on the late 90s jap reissue Mosrites?
ie: are they all the same and it's just an aesthetic thing or is there a way to date it?
it seems to be 8074 on mine

Virtually all Mosrites regardless of where they are made have the serial number stamped on the fretbard between the 21st and 22nd fret.

Re: serial number stamped in neck
As an aside, note that not all Japanese Mosrites have serial numbers on the neck. I had a Kurokumo Excellent Ventures model with no serial number anywhere on the guitar.

You're right there Mel. I've owned and seen quite a few Excellent's and I've only come across two with serial numbers. My recently aquired white early model Ex 65 has one, and along with the Moseley tailpiece I think it makes the guitar seem a little more authentic.
