I'm not sure how much stock I'd place in that statement. Semie made Joe Maphis's first doubleneck when he was seventeen years old before he ever married. I think the story has (possibly) been distorted though the translation or interpretation of whomever was supllying the information. JMTCW

That's like one of the stories that Don Rich bought the first Mosrite. He may have bought the first 'production' Mosrite, but it sure wasn't the first Mosrite.

I always thought the slim, narrow necks were designed for the fast pickers like Joe Maphis. But the story here is stating that after Semi designing it for a woman's hands, guys like Maphis came along and liked it for their style of speed pickin'. I'm sure there are lots of stories out there, so I'll take it with a grain of salt upon advisement ;)

When I said that Don Rich bought the first Mosrite I may have been off just a bit. I know it was a production model and I just looked it up and it was the first of the 1963 models.

Mosrites are collector’s items today. The first three 1963 production-line guitars, originally sold to Rich, Moles and Edwards

Sorry for any confusion. This is the websight I found it at'

Jim,
From that same Web Page.....
Mosrites are collector’s items today. The first three 1963 production-line guitars,
originally sold to Rich, Moles and Edwards, are said to be worth $30,000 each in Japan.
And Bakersfield-era Ventures models are worth $2,000 to $2,500 in new condition.
There’s still a certain demand for them.

......I think they might want to update this printing, as the prices are a 'little outdated'

Jim,

I didn't associate you with having said that as it has been said repeatedly from different sources. My comment was definitely not directed towards you. Bottom line is there is so much mis-information, that as more time goes by the truth will blend into myth. Unfortunately the Mosrite history was never documented and substantiated as was the many books written about Leo Fender with information from the many individuals that were a part of that legacy. I've found that in the various interviews documented with Semie Moseley that even he sometimes exaggerated or got confused with his own facts.

Sorry guys, not to hijack the thread, but since I still don't have a new 'puter, this PIC pretty
much describes the way Semie refinned my '63 back in 1990. It originally had the S.B.Headstock
on the front, but when he refinned the guitar, it ended up with the Black Headstock. I also (unfortunately)
told him I wanted Mosrite Humbuckers (fortunately I told him I wanted the original Pups back). When I got
it back, I didn't care about the Headstock after waiting what seemed like forever. Now that I look back at
that moment, I wish I would of given that a second thought.....oh well....

HOLY SMOKES!!! I just noticed one of my Rockman XP 100 amps
that I sold to Semie! I see he also took my suggestion in splitting
up the amp for the "Stereo" effect.

P.S.The one cabinet on the floor says XP-100, which it has the speaker and the Tweeter.
The one next to Semie on the table, is actually the Amp, also with Tweeter and Speaker.
Also saw that Brian Lonbeck was at the nice get together as well.

I believe that's Mr. Fillmore on the left, but the Gentleman on the right
is non other than Mr. Brian Lonbeck, and Uncle Semie is in the background ;) .
BTW, Brian Lonbeck will be with Deke Dickerson on January 17th, 2009 at the
"All-Mosrite Band at Deke's Guitar Geek Festival."
Get tickets and more info at http://www.guitargeekfestival.com or http://www.dekedickerson.com.
