Thanks for sharing the photos. My '66 Ventures model has the bright yellow burst and the grain shows through just fine. The modern bursts are nice in their own right, they're just not the same as the vintage ones. Maybe the process for the darker bursts is faster? At least Mosrites usually had white pickguards - it seems impossible to reproduce the coloration of tortoise pickguard Fender used in the 1960s, so you get a guitar with the wrong burst AND the wrong pickguard!

That's a nice refin! I like the 3 tone sunburst also, much more than a tobacco sunburst. Here's my Ranger, 3 tone sunburst:

Nice refinn. Do you have a definite line at the end of the black or does it gradually blend with the brown -red?

No, there is no definite black line. It is a translucent black mixed in with clear lacquer and sprayed on with a Binks Model 18 paint gun. The nozzle is adjustable for the fan of spray and by cutting the air pressure back you can use the gun like an air brush. Since the black is translucent, the more coats put on the blacker it gets giving that fade from one color to the next look.
