Very cool amp Dennis. Do you have documentation, ie a manual, etc for this one? I wonder how it fits in with the BG-500, BG-1000 etc.

Hey Sarah,
Del Halterman's book explains that the Model 400 was made around the same time as the Award amps (BG-500 and BG-1000). The Ventures asked Semie Mosely to put out a Mosrite Ventures Model amp. They felt that Mosely was taking too much time so they took matters into their own hands (the Ventures owned Mosrite Distribution). They hired an engineer (name unknown) to design the amp with their input. Once designed, they asked JBL to build the amp. JBL wasn't interested. Eventually they found the Award company in the Twin Cities. They built two prototypes which The Ventures were very happy with. They put the 100 watt BG-1000 and 50 watt BG-500 into production. This was in '67. Shortly after that, Mosely's Mosrite Model 400 amp was put on the market. Howard Dumble submitted an early Mosrite amp design but Ed Sanner was the engineer behind the Model 400. Within a couple of years, Mosrite and Award lost their shirts and both amps had very short runs.

I haven't made any soundclips or vids (maybe a winter project), and I have no schematics or manual with the amp. I bought it from the original owner, VG condition, all original, and the effects - reverb, tremelo, and especially the FuzzRite, have a great, vintage sound. It's a keeper, if for no other reason, because of their rarity.

Thanks Danny and Marty. That's great information and explains a lot.

Shame. It would be cool to know what makes them tick.

Hey Mel, you may have already seen this but for some clue as to what makes the Model 400 tick, there are photos of it's inards at http://s482.photobucket.com/albums/rr185/denncarr51/Mosrite%20Model%20400%20Amp/

My pleasure, Sarah, and apologies to Danny for not realizing the story had been posted on another thread and in much better detail. I also have to take back something in my story above ; I don't know that Ed Sanner was the engineer on the Model 400. I'm not sure where I got that notion. Checking Del's book, only Howard Dumble is mentioned as a designer on the amp. Ed did contribute the Fuzzrite.
