Necks w/ Maple Fretboard?

Postby EWW » Fri Nov 07, 2008 7:02 pm

Hi, I am wondering if anyone here has any info on the necks with bound maple fretboards. It would be a dream to get a hold of one. How rare are they? Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

Although Mosrite produced a limited number of models with maple fretboards, to the best of my knowledge none were bound in the traditional sense.

The Brass Rail model sported a maple fretboard bound with rosewood and maple laminates. The Sooner had an unbound board, and both the M88 and Nokie models of the late '80s to early '90s came with the option of an unbound maple/rosewood/maple laminated neck.

Gene Moles retrofitted a few of his parts-rite necks with maple fretboards and either white or black plastic binding, but these were customer ordered.

Kurokumo offers the option of a maple fretboard with white binding on some of their models (the '65 style I believe).

Curtis Muldoon up in Canada may have some remaindered Nokie/M88 maple necks left (like the one currently on eBay), but they wouldn't be bound.

Hope this helps,
Adam
