Hello Everyone,

Just before Christmas I ran into a music shop that does appraisals here in Fort Worth, Texas. He was very interested in my Mosrite and asked if I had an appraisal on it. I did not have one so I brought it in to him for the appraisal. He was absolutely in awe at the condition of my Mosrite and the fact that it had Nokie Edward's signature. He tested everything / shot pictures and then wrote out the appraisal for insurance purpose. He appraised my Mosrite between $5,800 and $6,800 and told me it would be worth much more if I could get authentication on the signature.. He said it was one of the nicest if not the nicest Mosrite he has seen in years. How does this match up with anybody else out there with a mint condition 2966 Mosrite?? Not bad at all!!!

I have learned that appraisals on this type of item are of questionable value...

1. If you want to collect insurance, it must be a specified item on your policy, which will cost you a much inflated premium every year.

2. If you want to sell the item, it is not always that easy to find a customer. All that nasty stuff said, it is at least some ammunition towards obtaining the most for your prized possession!

Congratulations on finding someone knowledgeable enough to value your Mosrite for you!

Lonnie,

First off, that's a beautiful guitar you've got there.

A thing I see happen fairly often is that someone will get an appraisal on a guitar and then think they can suddenly sell it for the appraised value when in reality, as olrocknroller said, "it is not always easy to find a customer". If selling it to a store or dealer you won't get anywhere close to this estimate and honestly a quick look around the internet turns up several '65, '66 and even a '64 Ventures models in great shape selling for considerably less from dealers. I'm not trying to bum you out or in any way say that you don't have a really awesome guitar, I just think it's a good idea to take appraisals like this with a grain of salt and not get you're hopes up that you are going to make close to $7000 on it.
