Vintage Mosrite with Mahogany neck and body

Postby Mr. Bill » Fri Sep 05, 2008 11:19 am

Hey guys! There is a vintage Mosrite "project" on eBay right now.

The seller says it has a mahogany body and neck. I don't think that I've ever seen mahogany parts used before. I always thought the necks were maple and the bodies were alder.

Was there a time that they used mahogany?

.........uhm.......not the Ventures or Mark I Model, but Semie did
use Mahogany bodies and necks on other models...........
Either this gentleman has a very very rare "one off" model which has been
known to happen....or he's been sniffin the solder in his repair dept  .
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

I should have posted the url here before.

If you look at the truss rod route in the peghead, it looks like it could be mahogany. The body, who knows as it's covered with the mess of repaint.

My guess is the guy just got it wrong. This is the second time he's listed this 'project', initially the auction was running for several days and was not above the $500 mark he's set as a starting price now. Looks like it could be a good guitar but alot of work is needed!!!

If you look at refinishing: new pups/tuners/tremelo/spring/pickguard (one on the guitar has extra holes, unless you like this)/rework neck holes (bush maybe?)/truss rod cover/fret rework, replacement?/body&neck refinishing/Mosrite decals?/M knobs, you could end up with a nice guitar...

*EDIT* Here is a link to the previous listing!

Jason: Also very interesting that the first auction was listed as just a guy with the guitar, and now he's listed as an experienced, 20 yr veteran/authority on guitars.

I considered bidding on this, guess I'll have to give it some thought.

Yeh, I admit it was an interesting offer in the first auction, I hate it when people do this to try and maximise profit for something that might not be as advertised, at least thats the feeling I get when guys do this.

If he'd have left it go as he had it set the first time I think he'd of got what he was after but now it makes you wonder whats going on..!?
