If I paid attention in class, I seem to remember that the brass rails themselves took over the function of a Truss Rod. If a Brass Rail neck didn't turn out straight at the factory, it became an instant reject/second. Adam will 'hit' us over the head with the facts though...(hopefully)...

The piece of brass is itself a truss rod (of the non-adjustable variety).
