This may be the wrong department to ask this question, but I was told by someone who knows these Mosrites very well that there were standard-sized Mosrites and smaller-bodied Mosrites.
Are the Mark Vs the smaller-bodied ones? If so, how much smaller are the bodies?

The scale length is supposed to be the same, I'm not sure how much smaller the bodies are but I saw a picture that had both a Mark I and Mark V in it, The Mark I seemed a lot bigger. I'll have to see if I can find that pic...
Edit: Found it. Picture is of ranran19701's collection, You can see the Mark V and Mark I on the right.

Thanks, Austin. That photo is very illuminating. There seems to be, unless that is a trick of perspective or something, a substantial difference in the size of those two Mosrites.
Also, on the Mark V, the neck seems to be set deeper into the body, the neck pickup isn't slanted, and the bridge is set much closer to the bottom of the body itself.
I would conclude from those differences that, even is the scale is the same on both, the two Marks would have a much different playing feel.
From a design point of view, the Mark I is, to my eye, a snazzier-looking instrument and the Mark V looks more student-model.

+1 on Adam. I have one of those tailpieces on my VII, they look like vibramutes but say Moseley instead.
And the reason the Mark V looks so much smaller, besides it's obvious physical size and neck depth into the body, is because it is a shorter scale than a Mark 1 or Ventures II.

Are your certain it is a shorter scale? It looks more like the neck is the standard 24.5 inch scale but set deeper into the body. You can see that the bridge sits a lot farther back on the body indicating the same scale length as the Mark 1. Maybe I'm wrong about my observations though as I've never handled one of these. Maybe someone can provide the scale length for the forum.

Bingo Danny....and that is why it looks shorter, however the scale length is the same.....
