That 12-string sure is peculiar: humbuckers + Vibramute + no Ventures logo = confusion.

...what about that finish on the 6 stringer? No yellow in the burst...is that unusual? (to me it is).

The 12 string could have been made in the 60s as a custom order with the humbuckers added later but as for the redburst one I think it may have been made in the 70s. Either that or its a one off. Or both. Nice guitars, Nick! How are the frets?

101Volts, you gotta learn how to walk before you can run. For someone who is relatively new to the Mosrite oeuvre, I'd hold off on spouting words like "one off" until you are a little more seasoned.

The redburst is rare but not that rare, it was a relatively standard Mosrite color. In the Bakersfield vernacular that's called cherryburst (yes, that will have you Gibson fans out there scratching your heads, but this isn't gibsonforum.com). Also, it is most likely late '60s - my guess would be '68 rather than early '70s.

The Vibramute pinpoints the 12-string to right around '65, which also would've been prime Ventures era which is why the lack of the logo is peculiar. As for the humbuckers, since the polepieces are misaligned that surely suggests that it did not leave the factory like that.

Ok, A little clearing up for Nick: A "One off" Mosrite would be a one of a kind model made by Semie himself. He made plenty of these over the years but it sounds like I was wrong about the cherryburst guitar being a one off, I didn't know they were made in the 60s but I do recall seeing pictures of a few 70s cherryburst models. As for the 12 string, I meant that the guitar may have been custom ordered to not have the Ventures logo, Then someone put some humbuckers in it later.

Take a look about halfway down this thread and you will see that Semie was shooting that same cherryburst back in the '50s.

The 6 string is exactly like mine. Right down to the "By Moseley" instead of "By Semie Moseley" on the headstock. Same tuners and all. I've never had the neck off of it, but the pots are dated '71 if I read them right. I could even be wrong. I figure it's a '71 or '72. When I send it for a setup I will have my guitar guy pop the neck off and look for a date. The serial is V0055. Hope this helps...
