Re: surfboard guitars
I remember seeing those guitars in San Rafael, too. I think they were in a glass case. I forget if the tip of the headstocks were attached to the surfboard "frame".
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

What? Couldn't tell the logo is a link? So click here, what's the hold up? http://www.meshuggabeachparty.com

The Japanese article covers this. The necks were secured with a standard 4-bolt Mosrite plate at the neck joint and a fifth bolt into the back of the headstock.

Re: surfboard guitars
Hey all!
That picture of the surfboard guitar with the amp is very interesting. It is not the same amp I have but is the same materials. Ed Sanner told me he built 4 or 5 prototypes for the Ventures to try out before the award amps od the other style Mosrite amps were made. The amp in the photo has the same grill cloth as mine which Ed Sanner said they got from radio shack and the same black face with screened Mosrite logo. Here are some very old shots of mine for comparison. I never have opened the chassis up but I am sure that it is solid state as there is no standby switch or warm up time to make sound and I am pretty sure the one with the surfboard guitar is the same. Ed Sanner was very suprised one of these prototypes still existed. I wonder if the one in the picture will ever surface....I really do need to get some good pix of this amp.

Aha! Thanks John. I was getting my facts mixed up. I always thought that amp of yours was one of the tube Dumble amps, but now I realize it's an Ed Sanner-built transistorized amp. Looking at this I bet Ed Sanner built that reverb I got off ebay too!
Well, it's a mystery where that other amp in the photo with the Surfite guitars went....maybe it will pop up one of these days too.

Hey Deek !
That amp looks a lot like your reverb unit!
Maybe built around the same time eh?
