serial number case

Postby dave m » Tue Jan 03, 2012 1:51 pm

Can you pin point the date of mostrites by serial number? the number on my combo is h-1266. Is there a system as with other companies? I am also in need of a case but the cheapest I found is over $300. Is a guitar show a good place to "shop" for one? Any advice would be cool!

Pots on a guitar are a general indication of the year of manufacture. Pinpointing dates with Mosrites by their serial numbers can be very tricky and even unreliable in many cases since Semie did not use a system in a strict- and consequent way. Some serial numbers could be purely fanciful. If you ordered a custom made guitar from Mosrite and wished your date of birth and initials to be used as serial number, it would get stamped in. Many Mosrite guitars have been custom made and variations in features (parts) in any period of manufacture is quite common. A much quoted slogan uttered by the master was "use what we have". That makes Mosrite so interesting and unique, as well as the offset body shape. Give it some time and someone with better knowledge (of Combos) is bound to chime in. Hallmark guitars offer fine cases but I don't know about ones for a Combo model. Good luck.
