Good afternoon,

Long time lurker, new member and first time poster! Like many here, I came to Mosrite through a lifelong love of the Ramones, but have come to love Mosrite guitars independent of that. I have three Mosrites: 2 of them are MIJ Fillmore Mosrites and the third is a 1966 Ventures II German Carve. I will post some photos when I have time. Glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum. I also own a 1966 Ventures II (Carve) model; mine is probably one of those in worse condition, missing half the original parts including the finish.

I'm curious, how is the neck width at the zero fret on your MIJ Mosrites? I've never looked much into that before, how does it compare to many of the 1960s models that Mosrite made? I've heard that Ventures models from the time are 1.550", but my 1966 Ventures II (Carve) is about 1.560".

Thank you! My 1966 VII is 100% original and is in really great condition apart from a fair amount of checking on the body, which I think is fairly common given the age.

The neck width at the zero fret on the Fillmore 65th Anniversary prototype is right at 1.5” but on the Johnny Ramone Forever it’s actually closer to 1.56”. On the 1966 VII, it’s right at 1.5”.

I am still trying to figure out how to post photos, I just need to find somewhere to host them so I can link to them from the forum, unless it’s possible to post attachments here, which doesn’t seem to be possible.

You're welcome. It seems like the 1966 models in particular are prone to finish checking, but I haven't compared very well with later ones.

That width sounds like it's the same as vintage Mosrite models. How about the frets, though? For my Ven. II, the width is 0.070", and height is 0.022 on the Low E side tapering down to 0.015" on the High E. I know that I can't just go out and buy the same fret width, at least. I know how to get the right fret width (and I have a small guide about how to do it, linked just below,) but it's not commonly available.

You could post the photos on Facebook, click on them so you get to the "Photo" section, then Right-Click on them once they're in that larger box. Choose the "Copy Link" button in the drop down menu, then paste the link here, in-between the "Img" code that pops up when you press the "Img" button underneath tbe Subject Box and above the Reply Box. It works, because here's an example photo of my own, a Kay K503A Amp (and yes, I am aware that it's a widow-maker amp, so I'm not trying to play it.)



EDIT: The image did work when I posted it, but 5 days later, it no longer does.

Ok, I have finally figured out how to post photos of my guitars, please see below. Regarding your questions about fret width, I am afraid that I don't know, I have not measured this and am not sure how to measure it as exactly as you are describing.

Fillmore 65th Anniversary "Johnny Ramone" model re-issue prototype; this was originally intended by Fillmore to be the 65th Anniversary model in 2017 and was to be a re-issue of the black, single pick-up "Johnny Ramone" model that Semie made for Johnny in 1989/90, but the planned re-issue never went ahead, I believe for financial reasons, so they only made this one. It was made by Mr. Yusa in Japan, then assembled and pickups wound/installed by Dana Moseley.

Well, if you want to measure Fret Width or Height, you could use Digital Calipers in Inch measurements for that.

Looks pretty good. Did they use the 24.50" scale length for it? I'm guessing that's a yes.

I didn't know this one reissue was made. Wasn't one of the white ones with a Sharkfin pickguard? Going by SouthpawJay's comparison video below, The Dana Moseley Pups seem to be more "open" than Hallmark or Japan-made pups.

Well, darn. This I did not expect, congratulations on it. It's a rare day for anyone to have a guitar that was owned by a favorite guitarist, one way or another.

How hot are its pickups - something like 8.4k neck, 10.4k bridge? I've heard conflicting info about the ohm ratings for Ventures II Carved / Mark V pickups, and never heard a consensus of what was used.
