Hallmark C60: older model vs newer

Hey All,

There is a used C60 up for sale in my part of the world. It must be an older version, with the more severe German carve and bone/plastic nut in place of the chrome piece on the new ones. Not sure what else has changed.

Anybody have an opinion on differences in playability/tone of the older vs newer model?

Thanks!

I don't think you will find any playability differences from the several years they have been in production. The metal string guide is the only real difference. Oh ya the lower bout carving is better looking on the last run. All in all they will all play and sound the same.

Thanks Jim - my engineering background leaves me wondering about why the nut was changed to chrome. Just wondering if it was a friction issue or simple cosmetics. Of course, I can point to many engineering failures where the original design was best ;)

Personally, I think that both of the changes reflect what Semie was producing during his Ventures days. Just getting Hallmark a little closer to the real thing.

Thanks Don,

I went ahead and bought it - I'll probably start a new post when i get some pics and home some more experience with the guitar.

But so far so good - stays in tune perfectly so the older nut seems to work just fine.
