Well, it's official--I got confirmation that I'm playing this gig with Buck Ford. Thursday, April 22 '10, at Trout's in Bakersfield, CA. I know there are some forum members in that area, and I invite y'all to come on down. I'm planning to bring my Hallmark Custom 60, and if anyone wants to check it out, come see me on a break. If we can get down there early enough (it's probably a 5-hour drive from Vacaville), I'm going to try and talk the guys into stopping at Front Porch Music. I'm looking forward to meeting any forum members who show up!
-Jon

If I were on the wrong coast, I'd surely be there.

Whew! Long gigging weekend! Wednesday we did an acoustic show in Redwood City, CA, just me, Buck and the fiddle player--not a bad drive; a little traffic, but it was only about an hour and 15 minutes from me. Thursday we were at Trout's in Bakersfield with the full band--a nice venue, big stage, good sound system, and we actually had a pretty good crowd for a Thursday night--although if any forum members were there, they didn't make themselves known. That one was about a 6-hour drive. I didn't get the chance to go to Front Porch Music because we had to leave early Friday morning and drive another six hours to Bullhead City, AZ to play a private party for a bunch of bikers. That was a fun one--the crowd was just rowdy enough to have fun, but nobody got out of control. After about five hours' sleep, we drove 12 hours back up to Sacramento to play a country club gig in Fair Oaks on Saturday night. By the time I got home to Vallejo early Sunday, I was totally fried--I remember being able to handle all the traveling a lot better back in the '80's when I was in my thirties! Now that I'm almost 60, it's a little tougher, but it was still fun.

It was, Sarah! It would have been even better if I hadn't gotten sicker than a dog on the way back to Sacramento from Bullhead City, though! A word to the wise--stay away from the chicken-fried steak at the cafe in Four Corners, CA (between Barstow and Boron in the Mojave desert). I had it for breakfast, and about an hour and a half later, it had me. Everyone else was fine, so the rest of the food had to have been OK, but it made for an even longer trip north.
