Cool! If it helps, the shape of the carve on the treble horn changed over time, and you can probably smooth that router slip down to an early 1963 era carve.

Kinda what i was thinking. I did some 150 grit sanding this morning to smooth out the body and quite honestly i got a good smooth transition on that horn so i may leave it as "character" as part of the story of this body! Makes it that much more unique. My plan is to NEVER sell this thing when i get it done anyway.

Also, what i'd really love is for someone to send me some side view photos and detail photos of a body with binding. This one has the channel but i'm not sure the size binding to use yet (haven't measured) AND the channel isn't the same depth all around so I need to see for myself how it was done back in the day

Thanks! So on the lower bout, does the binding create a "step"?

These were all hand carved and I suspect there's variation from one to another, but on this particular guitar, it appears as if there's a flat area around the edge of the guitar between the carve and the binding:

Thanks for the photos... could i get a couple of the treble side of the lower bout? I think we're on the same page, but if i can see that i'll know for sure... if you look at MY body, the tips of the horns are almost 1/2" high but the remaining channel is only about 1/4" so i wasn't sure if i need to taper the binding up that high or bring the body down... it's a "factory second" body that Semie himself made but the router slipped on the treble side horn... so maybe i need to bring that side of the horn down... must ponder!

if you plan to do a solid color finish you can build up the 'goofed' area with wood putty and shape it. I used Elmers putty IIRC on my bass body to build up the tip of one of the horns and it worked great.

Thanks... i'm going to do a traditional Sunburst... i don't need to build up the goof... it's actually not too bad for starters and second, since Semie's daughter verified it's one of the last bodies he hand carved, i'm not going to change it... that just makes it unique and special
