Gibson acoustics back in the early sixties used a screw adjustable saddle that was cast out of a ceramic material. They later changed it to plastic.

I think that the Beatles J-160E's had the ceramic saddles.

Sorry; I made a mental jump here that wasn't reflected in my posts. Another thing I had mentioned to the tech guys at CFMartin was whether acoustic guitar bridge saddles could be made of a fired ceramic material. In that situation, it seems to me that the pressure would be rather stable and consistent.

Making an entire acoustic guitar bridge out of ceramic might be a little trickier, because of the torque it might be subject to. There are so many different kinds of electric guitar bridges and some are so specific to a situation that I'd be inclined to doubt that a ceramic would be suitable.

Ceramics are used in industry in very high temperature and pressure situations, like seals in hot liquid pumps. We used them at General Motors in our molten lead pumps. They took the pressure and heat and held up nicely.

I didn't realize that those were made of ceramic material. I used to have those adjustable metal parts removed, filled in with whatever wood the bridge was made of, and then a conventional saddle placed into the bridge. Sometimes the repair was undetectable.

I thought that was the case, Dan. One of my staffers was using a paring knife at lunch the other day, and she told me that the knife blade was ceramic. It was as sharp as the devil and I'm thinking about getting my wife a set of those things for her birthday.

I'm sure there are limitations as to how to use them, but still . . .

Jim, I'd think twice about a set of knives for a birthday present . . it would almost be as bad a choice as a vacuum cleaner. :o

I'm just saying. . .

Hey!

Patty's great hobby is cooking. I got her, as her "official" birthday present, a 30GB 3G iPad II, which arrived a bit earlier than I had expected. So I went ahead and gave it to her. That she loves.

So for the day itself, I was thinking either gardening or cooking for a supplemental present. My gardening present I gave her for Mother's Day was a big flop. It was six of those TopsyTurvey planters. I thought she'd like 'em, but evidently they aren't as snazzy as they seemed when I ordered them on Woot.com.

She is very hard to shop for.

Thought you kind folks might want to see an acrylic at work. Jeff Baxter is guest musician with The Ventures on this one and starts "smokin' " at 0:40 :)
[the sound is not my cuppa', though]

Did the Ventures have a Television show at one time. I've seen several clips with the same format, the music almost sounds dubbed in as the drummer is making comments that you can't hear.
Strats seem to have the highs common with single coil pups. I like the deeper Humbuckers sound myself.

Here are a couple ore photos, I*'ve routed the edges, and repositioned the neck pick up. I think I might leave the routing as is.
Don't want to push my luck you know.
