Re: out of tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I first started playing, my teacher showed me the proper way to change strings and I've found it even more important to do this with a Mosrite, or any guitar with a whammy bar. After you've changed strings, tune it. Now grab the strings and stretch them, 1 at a time, retune. I do this 3-5, sometimes 6 times until it stays in tune. None of this will work though if it's not intonated corectly, which should be done when changing string gauge, higher or lower. Once I've done this, my guitar stays in tune, even if I leave it in the case for up to a year. A proper Vibramute or Mosley tailpiece will bend in tune and, stay in tune. Look at the tailpiece where the strings go in, they should not be straight across. Mosrites are staggered and, according to Loretta, this idea came to Semie in a dream. I'm not sure if the Rangers are made the same or not. The other thing he showed me was to properly wind the string into the tuners, 1 1/2 winds on top, with 3-4 below it in order to keep the tension on the string. I can't tell you how many great guitar players can't properly string their guitar.
It does seem that the G string is the first to go out of tune though. I've been told that 3 on a side headstocks are prone to this, sometimes called Gibsonitis, due to neck angle. I do not know for sure. Hope this helps,
Rocco

hey
I agree with rocco, almost any guitar will stay in tune a whole lot better if you follow these steps while restringing.

I -always-strung my guitars that way,but with this Ranger things don't go very well, ther are somebody said that with the stock spring and 0.10 strings all is perfect,I can't play half a song without to be -OUT!I'll try a stiffer spring, but I can't understand if this is the real problem or it's because that metal nut, luthier in my area have never seen a metal nut.....

Have you tried flatwound strings? I found that my Jazzmaster is much more stable with flatwounds. When I got my Mosrite I immediately put flatwounds on it and never had problems.

Re: out of tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
before buying another spring I made a call to a friend of mine(I found 4 him an Excellent-with no issues.....),and let him to take a closer look to the guitar. he said the main difference is on the size of the tremolo tailpiece,in the .Excellent it fits perfectly,on the Ranger there are some space from the side ,so the tailpiece could slide up and down
he came after all with a .dremmel-and had refinished the -E-and the -B- holes in the tremolo tailpiece, the strings were a little in touch with the walls ,and putting every tuning out.
at now-or at this time ladies and gentlemen....-the guitar is -in tune!!
don't wan't to scream Victory! but I hope the troubles are over!

hey bruno,
remember that on mosrites the zero fret is the actual nut. the metal piece behind the nut is nothing but a string guide. you might want to make sure the strings rest on the zero fret and NOT the quarter round string guide behind it. If the string guide sits higher then the zero fret this will throw your tuning completely out of wack.

Re: out of tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mmmm, here again,I left my Ranger for months at home 'couse it hurts me so bad to have problems playing live, but I've to say ,there's something wrong which I can't find it out.
I changed string gauge-spring gauge-nothing...it stay perfect in tune till you touch the tremolo, after only nightmares...................,so at last could be the string guide ?
I'll give the Ranger the last chance before going to ebay.....
