Yeah, in that much snow it's a heavy task just to walk! I spent two hours trying to dig out the durango, since it has 4 wheel drive. I finally got the snow off the car and most of it from around the car. Even in 4 wheel drive I was only able to move the thing about 10 feet before I gave up. I doubt I'll be able to get out until Tuesday. And that's if I'm lucky. At least I now have a small section where the truck was, so the dogs now have a place to go relief themselves. At their age I don't think I can retrain them to use the toilet ;)
I have to admit yesterday I had a jacka** moment and picked my dog up and put him in the snow. To my surprise my dog disappeared! So I actually did have to dig him out, lol. He wasn't very amused either, but I think he has a secret language that he communicates with my g/f, cuz she beamed me with snowball for my actions. It's okay, I deserved it.

A political mystery - Why is there never any talk of global warming when there's 20 inches of snow on the ground - and the country's being hit by record-breaking snowfalls? Do these guys burrow underground and hibernate, only to come out when it's 100 degrees, and politically expedient??

Hey, Dennis--

>>Why is there never any talk of global warming when there's 20 inches
>>of snow on the ground . . .

You hit upon something that I was thinking.

As we were watching TV the other night, the announcer said that the White House had reported it had a total of 10 inches of snow. I said to my wife, "Funny, the West Wing must only be 25 inches high or so, based on that photo with the snow halfway up the flipping wall!"

As Truman once supposedly said, "If some of these birds tried to tell the truth, they'd choke on it."

well.... you guys did touch onto something spooky. Because some scientists believe global warming could trigger another ice age. This is how it would happen. The "engine" that controls the jet steam occurs in the Altantic, south of Greenland. If enough fresh water melted, due to the ice caps melting, it's believed it is possible to turn this system off, which would lead to a new ice age. It's also believed that the last one lasted ~1300 years, and the onset of the last ice ice occurred in a somewhat similar way. It's also believed that the onset only took roughly one to two years to happen, compared to older beliefs it hundreds of years. Not sayin' it's true or not, just a spooky thought. :?

I found the missing artic ice!! It is in Laurel, Maryland. I still need to shovel thru more than 2 feet of the crap to get to my shed where my generator is in case we lose power in the one coming today forecast for 15" to 24" on top of the 35" we just got this weekend after the 5" last week and the 1' we got December 20th. I got my truck out but the roads still suck. There is not much the plow trucks can do in this stuff and they are using front end loaders and dump trucks and dumping it under the Woodrow Wilson Bridge or anywhere else they can find. I miss sunny California. I am in a couple of picks resting on my shovel in the am about 1/2 way thru the storm. My truck is also plainly invisible in some of the pix.

Guess we'll get all this in the form of flooding when Spring comes ... I really don't envy you guys. I shoveled about 4 inches this morning, and looking at this, I feel pretty good about it!

One of the positive aspects of 'the big dig'; with all them beautiful pics of snowscapes, you guys won't have to buy Christmas Cards this year; make 'em yourself ;)
