South Florida Weathermen SUCK during Hurricane Season!

Postby Dennisthe Menace » Sun Aug 17, 2008 12:22 pm

I know Strat-o-rama is not quite within shouting distance of me, but I'm sure he can relate to the
B.S. that goes on down here in SoFlo when "Hurricane Season" arrives.......
In the past 5 or 6 years, they have changed it to where there are only 3 Seasons in S. Florida.
1) Fall
2) Winter
3) Hurricane Season (from June to November)
Yes, that's right Folks, there IS NO Spring or Summer down here anymore, thanks to the National Hurricane Center, Local TV Stations, the WEATHER CHANNEL (ESPECIALLY DAVID SCHWARTZ (he's a real piece of work!), etc. And they are usually "sponsored" by those wonderful people from Loew's and the Home Depot, because they are concerned for our safety!
ANYONE getting my drift yet?
God bless those Folks!
It is so nice to watch these "Brave Daring Professionals" go out and 'Risk their Lives' to report to us live, with the LATEST UPDATES, holding on to their microphone and headsets for dear life while they report to us that the (Storm, Hurricane, fill in the missing blank) could be very, very dangerous!! :o
I am so Frickin tired of this crap just to get "ratings." And they always give those famous 'scare tactics' with, "stay tune for the latest reports on OUR station, or "don't touch that dial, you'll want the latest update FROM US." And when you start studying and listening to these A-holes, they are subliminally using scare tactics at the public while at the same time, they are saying "there's no cause for alarm, we just have to watch closely."
After spending millions and millions of dollars on the latest, the greatest Computer Modules, they STILL DON'T know any more than they did before where a Storm might go. But they HAVE BRAINWASHED and SCARED the crap out of a lot of people down here. At the same time, they just can't understand why SOME people are not responding when they tell them to "JUMP." There's one especially on a local channel that JUST DOESN'T UNDERSTAND why people are'nt listening.....
Well, after yelling "Fire" enough times, you didn't really think people were going to keep listening to you, did you there "Sunshine?"
So, if you all will please excuse me, I have to go get batteries from my local "Radio Shack" that won't fit in my "HURRICANE PROOF RADIO" (the manufacturer guarantees it!). And the Wife wants me to pick up 4 more gallons of water in case we are w/out water for a year. I don't have to worry about the cars, I took care of that yesterday, although the "Turn Signal Indicator Fluid" was about a pint low in the Twin Turbo...........
So again, please excuse me while I go watch my favorite Weatherman Hero, "Mr. David Schwartz on the Weather Channel," cause he told us to. I particularly love when he puts a lot of "drama" into his reports and updates...God Bless Him, and the rest of those A-Holes!

Wow! Dennis, you got me scared just reading this. Now, tell us how you really feel.

You know, virtually every state has some type of major disaster each year. Fortunately the man upstairs rotates the disasters around so one place doesn't get all the attention. Last month the entire state of Kali'fornia burned to the ground. ;) Now we are gearing up for earthquake season.

I just wish the weather would cool off so that I can work in my shop and finish building that bass guitar.

Regardless, be safe!

The Lady of the House and I get a laugh out of it.
My favorite is when you get the "KILLER HURRICANE SETS SIGHTS ON SOUTH FLORIDA" (like the hurricane is making this decision to be a badass), and the newsteam is braving it by the beach. They like to stand near a road sign flapping in the wind and lament how, "You can really feel the wind picking up. It's getting bad. Please, stay indoors where it's safe, and make sure you have your batteries and water."

Then, the storm goes another direction. Turns out to sea. You can see the disappointment on their faces and hear it in their voices.
For a while, though, they were in their glory, panicking the public so they stay tuned.....

The irony, Dennis, is the one time they did not do this. For some reason the media's backs were turned, and that was when Hurricane Floyd was headed straight for Ft. Lauderdale. It was a Cat 5, and I remember really sweating that one out, with very little attention from the hurricane hypers. Luckily, it turned due north as it hit the Bahamas and tracked just off the coastline. Marsh Harbor in the Bahamas was devastated, nearly wiped off the map. Could you imagine if something like that hit Ft. Lauderdale?

Coming from the UK and watching the weather channel here in Oklahoma was a real shock, I hear ya on the storm commentary, I reckon some of those guys used to cover horse racing!! lol

We get our fair share here too, just substitute 'Hurricane' for 'Tornado'!

....the so called typical "Hurricane Party"Image
...South Floridians glued to their TVs for the "Latest Update"Image
...a few hours after listening to the Weather Commentator Experts Image
...and then the Commentators' scare tactics like Strat-o-rama said:
"KILLER HURRICANE SETS SIGHTS ON SOUTH FLORIDA"Image
...then after all the scaring tactics, their response?Image

After watching for almost 2 hours this morning, and our daughter said "Dad, they're showing Re-Runs," we decided to watch something else on Cable TV that dealt with water, so we decided to watch reruns of "SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS."

Jason, I hear you Bro, but to the best of my knowledge, Tornadoes happen very quickly, although you still get a good amount of warning in time, which I'm not saying is any less dangerous. But down here, it's a PRODUCTION that can last anywhere from 3 to 6-7 days depending upon the storm (Hurricane?). It's just the way these Idiots conduct their Expertise (Mentality) down here. And Trent DOES KNOW what I'm referring to, judging by his response.
