I'm needing some wall mount hangers to hang and display a few guitars. I've tried a couple of different wall hanger brackets purchased off eBay and the rubber on them has melted the nitro lacquer on the neck where it touches. I've changed the sponge type rubber that was on them to black rubber hose and then to clear hose both purchased at Ace Hardware and it still attacks the lacquer. I would like to find wall hangers that are safe for lacquer. Any recommendations?

I buy deer hide from Tandy, or eBay, and hand stitch little leather sleeves to slide over the foam. You get the protection of the soft foam, and the soft deer hide is gentle to the neck and does not react to the finish. I suppose cloth would do the same thing, but I like the leather.

I've used the (String Swing) the one with the wood block for years on many finishes with no problems.You can also place a piece of cotton flannel or a piece of chamois over the hanger part then hang the guitar. As long as the finish is not in contact with the rubber you should be fine.

this seems to be a growing problem to me. because this is also an issue inside cases with a poly fur. i have the black foam on my guitar stands, and they are okay, as long as I check them regularly and keep a nice coat of wax on them, but I think Sarah's idea is the best I heard so far. Deer are nothing but rats with hooves anyway, heh.

When I worked at Guitar Center they had just starting to sell Gibson guitars and when we hung them on the hangers they started messing with the finish on the necks so we had to order new hangers and for the life of me I can't remember what they were.

Another vote for String Swing. 'Use them exclusively.

If you plan to hang a bunch, this formula worked here.

A 1x4 piece of oak 8 feet long will hold six instruments. Finish it similarly to the wood on the String Swings.

Screw the 1x4 into the studs with #8 3-inch screws and the String Swing to the horizontal with provided screws.

Sixteen-inch centers between String Swings works out for most guitars.

Jim I think he's wanting a lead to some hangers that wont destroy the finish on his necks but that's a good idea. I might try that.

Se Mark1's post above; neither of us has had probs with String Swing damaging finish.

Look into Hercules. I have a Hercules stand for my Martin's and no problem with the Nitro finish.

Well it's too late. I bought six Axe Claw hangers after someone locally recommended them, installed them and have already screwed up the lacquer on two guitars. It doesn't have any effect on the poly finished guitars, so that's what I have hanging. They're just not the guitars that I wanted readily available to grab off the wall and play. Oh Well!
