Nothing wrong with digging up old threads. It always nice to hear a different perspective.

Neutrik ends and mogami? Man! I'm getting old and out of touch. I had to look them up on the internet.

i guess a little background helps. i run sound in a performing arts theater, so we make our own cables and adaptors. it's just cheaper that way. we get to buy in bulk, plus we don't get taxed on purchases since it's for the state.

mogami is decent affordable instrument cable. neutrik makes brilliant connectors that are extremely easy to put together and repair. they do a lot of stuff where you don't need to solder, but i always trust soldered connections more.

monster stuff seems nice, but i'm a broke college kid. ;)

I've used Fender Vintage Voltage cables, but today I'm getting a 20ft angle plug cable from Elixir. The angle plug looks nice with '65 model Mosrite front jack...

Wow those Elixir cables are pretty expensive, do you think you'll notice a difference?

I believe so, haven't gotten it yet though... ;)

There are a couple of improvements to the Fender Vintage Voltage that I'm using: the angle plugs and it's longer too. So the difference in tone was not the only reason why I decided to buy it. Since the cable has to be very good quality + reliable, the price didn't bother me so much.

I’ve been using the same guitar cable for a number of years now and I’m very satisfied with it’s performance. It’s very tough and yet at the same time not stiff at all, -very flexible in fact. The guitar salesman highly recommended it (this was in the late nineties!) and I remember that it was rather expensive but it has proven to be very durable and user friendly too; a good buy.

I’ve never paid any attention to the brand name but this is what is printed on it:

tasker C/300 1x24 AWG PROFESSIONAL NOISELESS GUITAR CABLE LOW CAPACITY cm. 25 <=>

The jack plugs attached to it are of the "Neutrik" brand (made in Lichtentein it says) and they weren’t cheap either but worth the money I spent on ‘em. :)

'Got thoroughly hooked on Planet Waves cables with the circuit breaker at guitar-input end.

Ultra-cool and wildly useful. 'Am bassist at church and therefore, play opening hymn, turn off until 'Gloria, and so on to closing hymn. 'Turn off and on about ten times during a Mass. And the covering and pulling on-off holds up too. And manufacturer has a nice performance guarantee.

And GP mag rated them highly for sound, as well. Not tops, but highly.

I guess I'm a Caveman when it comes to Cables. I buy one for $20.00, use it for 4-5 years and buy another when it quits. I hear and read all the hype about cables and then I think of all the Great Music recorded with Cheap Curly Cords!!!! I might come screamin' into the 90's sooner or later.

Me to. I'm not in a band at this time, so who cares. My wife will never say, "You know, your tone will improve if you stop using those cheap $20 cables."
Now that I think about it, the guys in my old band back in the 90's, nor any member of the audience has ever made such a comment. So Billy, you may have to move your comment up to "screamin' into the 21 st century."

I guess I should have been more specific when I started this thread about what cables are best or what cables do you use. I have a box full of old cables and leads that I never threw away after they started shorting out. Over the years I would always cut the wires back and resolder the leads back on. What I found was that some of the newer inexpensive cables have extremely small lead wires and has a tendency to short out somewhere through the length of the cable.

I started this topic to find a cable that would hold up to the rigors of being twisted, stretched, kinked and walked on. I was beginning to think every thing was space age junk with molded ends as found at Radio Shack. If I had to pay $30-$40 for a 'quality' cable, so be it. Fortunately I found the Live Wire cables at Guitar Center. They are inexpensive and made the way cables should be for professional use. I've noticed they didn't make my guitar sound any better though. ;)
