SEMIE AND HANK THOMPSON'S GIBSON SUPER 400 at JONAS RIDGE

Postby EF@MosriteRecords » Mon Nov 09, 2009 9:35 pm

It was a pleasure to be able to play and see this guitar again at the time. Hank brought
the guitar up for semie to work on. hank is a great artist and really a legend. Notice the inlay in the headstock which is a custom feature for a super 400 and not standard. I have to admit I could sure get that Travis sound through a tube amp. P-90's of course,
what else?.....Pictures taken at Jonas Ridge in the set-up room Semie had there.

Keeping the music alive:

Here is another photo showing the test room which also at the time was used as setup
for Semie. Guitar is Hank Thompson's Gibson Super 400. Notice Music Man amp in background.

OH YES that is a Venture 62 on the bench beside me in the second picture. It was for a friend. It is a prize in as much as Semie hand built it himself, no doubt about that. I was there.

Elaine,

We remember the 'set up room' very well, but where was the Mosrite Amp,
was it still on a high shelf near the door when you were there?
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

The last time I was up there, Loretta had the amp in the front room of the house next to the couch. I played through it. It worked fine. That would have been 2006-07.

Cool photos Elaine. I got to play through that same Mosrite amp back in 97, very cool sounding amp for a solid state. How come all the Mosrite amps out there seem to work fine? :D

Elaine, Great Photos again!!! I'll try to get some photos up of my '63 RI Ventures from Jonas Ridge. It has Semie's Initials in the serial number and I was told by the McKinney Family {who I got the Guitar From NOS a few years ago} that worked for Semie, it was made entirely by him. It is a Set-Neck, Side-Jack Sunburst Ventures. Maybe you know something about it, I can't find any other info. Thanks!!!! :D

Hi Elaine -- do you remember what Semie did to this guitar? It just sold at Christie's and I had the chance to play it at the preview.
